Tēnā koutou katoa,
The 2025 to 2026 Whanganui Journey season has wrapped up, and it was a big one. Up to the end of March, 3,946 manuhiri stayed at Tieke: 2,194 at the campsite and 1,752 in the hut.
Ngā mihi to our kaitiaki
Our kaitiaki this season were Trish and Pania. They welcomed manuhiri ashore, shared safety messaging on the awa, and looked after the hut and shared facilities day in, day out. Both have since gone on to full time roles with DOC, a testament to the mahi they did at Tieke.
Our thanks also go to the whānau and trustees who ran kaitiaki and supplies up and down the awa all season.
What operators told us
At the end of season concessionaires hui, operators gave positive feedback about how Tieke ran, the relationships on site, and the contribution of Ngāti Hinekura through the season.
A reminder for next season: please take all rubbish and food out with you, and don't put rubbish in the wharepaku.
Ngā mihi maioha,
Ngāti Hinekura Manatōpū
